This season, I was a member of the Doppler on Wheels team working on the NSF BEST Project, studying the ground-level behavior of tornadoes. The team deployed on the May 21 Greenfield, IA, EF4 tornado, which DOW data revealed exhibited some of the fastest windspeeds on record. I was in the SCOUT vehicle that day and deployed a pod within a half mile of the tornado - then put my comms hat on and pitched this incredible story to NBC.
